"There should be more copies of certain books."
Great thought, but this is one area where we differ from public libraries. Because we are developing a collection with greater longevity in mind (we want to spend our money in a way that maximizes the research and reading value both now and in 20 years), we are very hesitant to devote dollars to second or third copies of any particular book. Public libraries are more devoted to what is being read now (and less so what will still be important to scholars in future decades), and so they spend money on ensuring they have enough copies of popular books to meet the current demand.
Our bestseller collection on the first floor is our primary method of making popular materials available to our community. In some rare cases, we may have two copies of a book when it appears in both our General Collection and in the Bestsellers collection.
We do also encourage Hollins community members to get public library cards. You can show your Hollins ID at the Hollins branch of the Roanoke County Public Library (located just over a mile away, on Peters Creek Road) to get a Roanoke County library card, which enables you to access books and e-books from across all the Roanoke, Roanoke County, and Salem libraries.
